President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved an 18-month extension of the tenures of the heads of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), allowing both officials to remain in office until 2028.
The extension affects the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kemi Nanna Nandap, and the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche.
The approval was announced on Monday, October 19, 2026, in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
Under the new arrangement, Nwakuche will remain in office until May 26, 2028, while Nandap’s tenure will run until June 30, 2028.
According to the statement, the President approved the extensions following a recommendation by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
The decision is intended to address succession gaps within the two services and give their respective boards sufficient time to appoint successors.
Tinubu commended both service chiefs for the reforms recorded under their leadership and urged them to consolidate the gains made.
Nwakuche was nominated as Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service in December 2024, and the Senate confirmed his appointment in March 2025.
Nandap, who joined the Nigeria Immigration Service in 1989, was appointed Comptroller-General in 2024. Her tenure had previously been extended until December 31, 2026, before the latest approval further prolonged her stay in office.
The latest decision will allow both officials to continue overseeing their respective agencies while arrangements for their eventual succession are made.
