The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction met with a World Bank delegation to discuss social support for vulnerable Nigerians, with both parties reaffirming their commitment to poverty reduction.
The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction on Thursday hosted a World Bank delegation to discuss emergency assistance and strategies aimed at improving the welfare of millions of vulnerable Nigerian households across health, education, and other critical social sectors. The meeting, held in the conference room of the Honourable Minister on May 22, 2026, brought together senior government officials and World Bank representatives to strengthen collaboration on social intervention programmes.
Speaking at the meeting, Minister Dr. Doro described the National Social Registry as more than a database, calling it a strategic national tool for identifying poor and vulnerable households and ensuring that social interventions are evidence-based, well-targeted, and impactful.
She reaffirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to lifting millions of Nigerians out of poverty, and expressed hope that other development partners would join efforts with the federal government to improve the lives of the most vulnerable citizens.
The World Bank delegation, led by Mr. Roberts Chase, restated the Bank’s continued support for Nigeria’s social intervention programmes. Mr. Chase also noted that Nigeria operates the largest social registry on the African continent.
