Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to lead Nigeria’s delegation to a government-to-government peer exchange focused on accelerating nutrition delivery.
Shettima is attending the inaugural Nigeria-Ethiopia Nutrition Leadership Exchange Visit at the invitation of Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Temesgen Tiruneh, who is championing a multi-sectoral approach to improving nutrition outcomes.
The forum is designed to enable both countries to share experiences on building a federal, state and local compact for nutrition delivery.
As part of the visit, the Nigerian delegation will study Ethiopia’s government-led approach to improving nutrition and tour selected facilities and projects across the country.
The programme includes visits to a wheat farm and banana plantation in Oromia, the “Bounty of the Basket” Training Centre and households in Mojo, as well as Jabdu Motors in Bishoftu.
Shettima is accompanied by Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal and Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi.
Other members of the delegation include the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu; the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari; and the Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency, Mrs Zubaida Umar Abubakar.
The Vice President is expected to return to Abuja after concluding his engagements in Ethiopia.
