Nigeria Railway Corporation passengers to enjoy discounted fares from May 26 to June 1.
The Federal Government has approved a 50 percent reduction in train fares across all train stations operated by the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) to ease travel costs for Nigerians during the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
The discount, which took effect on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, will run through Monday, June 1, covering all NRC routes nationwide.
In a statement signed by Gift Osima for the Deputy Director Information and Pubic Relation said the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Transportation, Engr. Funsho Adebiyi, announced the measure on Tuesday, describing it as part of broader government efforts to make transportation more affordable during the festive period.
Passengers who purchased tickets at full price before the announcement are also entitled to a 50 percent rebate train ride on or before June 1.
The ministry noted that existing train schedules and timetables remain unchanged.
Nigeria’s Muslim population is expected to mark Eid-el-Kabir — one of the most significant celebrations in the Islamic calendar — with large numbers of travellers returning to their home towns and communities across the country.
The ministry extended its goodwill to passengers and the Muslim faithful, wishing them a peaceful and joyous celebration.
