The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr Bernard M. Doro, has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), calling for deeper collaboration with the United Nations and development partners. Dr Doro spoke on Monday at the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) 2023–2027 Steering Committee Meeting, held at the UN House in Abuja. The meeting brought together government ministers, the UN Country Team in Nigeria, development partners and diplomats to review progress under the Framework and agree next steps for accelerating SDG implementation. The Minister said the Ministry remains committed to reducing poverty, strengthening social protection and building resilient communities through coordinated partnerships. He pointed to the Ministry’s One Humanitarian–One Poverty Response System (OHOPRS) as a unifying framework that brings together all tiers of government, UN agencies, development partners, civil society and the private sector under one national coordination mechanism. He also highlighted the National Poverty Intelligence Lab (NPIL), describing it as a key innovation delivering real-time data to improve programme targeting, policy design and accountability in the fight against multidimensional poverty. Dr Doro commended the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office and the UN Country Team for their continued support to Nigeria’s development priorities, stressing that achieving the SDGs will require stronger institutional collaboration, innovative financing and technology-driven solutions. He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to operationalising the Renewed Hope Agenda through coordinated humanitarian action and inclusive social protection, expressing confidence that the meeting’s resolutions would strengthen Nigeria’s path towards a more inclusive and prosperous future.
