Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, says he will soon inaugurate and lead campaign teams for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid in the FCT and Rivers State.
Wike disclosed this on Friday, September 25, while inspecting the ongoing dualisation of the Kuje-Gwagwalada road in Chikuku, Abuja.
According to reports by Premium Times and TheCable, the minister said supporters of the President across political parties were already mobilising ahead of the 2027 election.
“Very soon, I will inaugurate the campaign team for Tinubu in the FCT and Rivers, which I will lead,” Wike was quoted as saying.
The FCT minister also pointed to ongoing infrastructure projects in Abuja as part of the administration’s record, arguing that completed projects would help demonstrate the government’s performance to voters.
Wike’s comments also come amid an ongoing political dispute with Senator Ireti Kingibe, who represents the FCT in the Senate. The minister has said Kingibe will not return to the Senate in 2027 and has expressed support for former FCT Senator Philip Aduda in the contest for the seat. Kingibe, however, has said that Wike cannot determine her political future, maintaining that FCT voters will decide whether she returns to the Senate.
Wike, who remains a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been publicly supportive of President Tinubu and has continued to participate in political discussions surrounding the 2027 election.
His proposed role in the FCT and Rivers campaign comes as political parties and political figures continue preparations for the 2027 general elections.
