The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction has provided further clarification on the ₦50,000 relief support under the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI), addressing common questions about beneficiary selection, payment procedures and attempts to defraud Nigerians.
In a statement issued on Friday, November 6, 2026, the Ministry described NERSI as a Federal Government initiative designed to support vulnerable households facing rising living costs.
Beneficiaries are selected from the National Social Register and verified national identity records, using poverty and vulnerability criteria. The selection covers all six geopolitical zones.
The Ministry stressed that there is no application or registration process and that no individual, government official, agent or third party can influence the selection process or fast-track payment.
Under the intervention, each selected beneficiary will receive ₦50,000 as a grant. The full amount is credited without deductions, and recipients are not required to repay it.
Beneficiaries will be notified by SMS from one of five authorised digital financial service providers, with instructions on how to accept the support. This may involve replying YES or dialling the provider's Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) code to give consent.
The approved platforms and their USSD codes are ALAT by Wema Bank (*945*23#), MoMo Payment Service Bank (MoMo PSB) (*671*0#), NairaGram (*726*00#), OPay (*955*20#) and Moniepoint Microfinance Bank (*5573*27#).
Once consent is given, the money is credited directly to the beneficiary's mobile wallet. The USSD service works without a smartphone or internet connection.
The Ministry said beneficiaries are not required to pay any fee to be selected, accept the offer or receive the grant. They are also not required to register through an agent or click any link.
It warned Nigerians never to disclose their Personal Identification Number (PIN), One-Time Password (OTP) or Bank Verification Number (BVN) to anyone, stressing that anyone demanding money in exchange for the grant is attempting fraud.
The Ministry advised anyone with questions or complaints to contact the official NERSI helpline on 0700-022-2222.
It reaffirmed its commitment to delivering the intervention with transparency, accountability and dignity, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
