Abuja, 24 August 2026 — The Federal Government will on Wednesday, 26 August 2026, unveil the $1 billion Renewed Hope Social Protection Programme at the Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja, in what officials describe as a major shift towards a more integrated, household-centred approach to social protection.
The programme, delivered through the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction under Honourable Minister Dr Bernard M. Doro, sits at the centre of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. It will be formally unveiled by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
At the heart of the launch is the One Humanitarian One Poverty Response System (OHOPRS), a new national architecture linking humanitarian response, social protection, poverty reduction and economic inclusion around the household as the unit of intervention and measurement. Its guiding proposition: One System, From Vulnerability to Prosperity.
The ministry will use the occasion to set out its strategic priorities, institutional reforms and delivery mechanisms for humanitarian affairs and poverty reduction going forward.
Also launching alongside the programme is an Emergency Cash Transfer initiative, targeting 7.6 million vulnerable households with timely support against socioeconomic shocks, and the Humanity First Magazine, a new communications and knowledge platform documenting interventions, partnerships and impact stories across the sector.
Officials say the event will also reinforce collaboration between the Office of the First Lady and FMHAPR in supporting vulnerable households and linking them to pathways out of poverty.
